Lots of Chelsea staff have real doubts about 28-year- old now, don't think he should be starting– journalist

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that staff at Chelsea are having real doubts about Kepa Arrizabalaga. He told GiveMeSport that some at the club don’t believe that the 28-year-old should be a starter for the club next season.

Many will have been believing that Chelsea would have been looking to upgrade Kepa this summer, despite him being the starter for the majority of the prior campaign. He displaced Edouard Mendy from his role as a starter at the club, and the Senegal international has already been one of the players let go by them.

A lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia was attractive enough for Mendy, with him joining Kalidou Koulibaly and N’golo Kante who have already moved there too. This sale only further enforced the likelihood that the Blues would sign a first team goalkeeper this summer, with a number of names being linked.

Jones has claimed that there are murmurs again of interest in AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, with staff at the club not convinced on starting the season with Kepa in goal. He said:

“Another situation I am expecting to become interesting and more urgent is on the goalkeeper scene. “Let’s see how Kepa Arrizabalaga does in these first days of Pochettino but I would say quite a few people around Cobham are still not wholly convinced that he is the long-term number- one under the new boss.

“The links with Mike Maignan are back and there have definitely been conversations around that potential move so I would not lose sight of that.”

Supporters will broadly be in agreement with those claims that they do not believe that Kepa has the capabilities to be the number one, despite his return to the side last season.
