Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea are in discussions today over signing Moises Caicedo from Brighton. He took to Twitter to state that the Blues remain the only club interested in completing a deal for the midfielder this summer. It is widely expected that Caicedo will be on the move this summer, off the back of signing a new contract and remaining at the club back in January.
He enjoyed a brilliant campaign on a personal level, being voted the player of the year for the overachieving Seagulls. The Blues have emerged as the top candidates to sign him, with other Premier League sides securing their top targets.
It is widely expected that Declan Rice is set to be Arsenal’s record signing, and they were arguably Chelsea’s biggest rivals to the signing. Romano has claimed that the long-standing negotiations are continuing today. Chelsea talking for Caicedo right now He said:
“Chelsea remain the only club in talks to sign Moisés Caicedo — also only club to agree on personal terms with Caicedo at this stage. “Negotiations are active and concrete between Chelsea and Brighton, even today.”
Despite things taking a long time for the deal to be confirmed, it is no doubt that Chelsea will be completing a deal for a top player if they do get it over the line. He was described last season as ‘unbelievable’ by pundit Chris Sutton, and established himself as a top-class player in a number of positions.
Chelsea have seen some big players in midfield leave already this season. Both N’golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic have secured lucrative moves away this summer. They need to bring in a top quality operator to replace them, and Caicedo is certainly a player with enough quality to fill that role.
