Ben Chilwell has sent a five-word message to Chelsea teammate Wesley Fofana after news of a serious injury emerged. Chelsea confirmed on their official website yesterday that Wesley Fofana , 22, has undergone anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery.
There’s no official timeframe on when the Blues centre-back may return to the pitch, but it’s usually a long lay-out that we’re guessing could disrupt his whole 2023/24 campaign. We’re absolutely gutted for the French defender, who’s been unfortunate with injuries in his career so far, to suffer a serious problem right at the start of this summer’s pre-season.

“We’re all with you brother,” Chilwell wrote on his Instagram story . Fofana is going to need the love and support of his teammates after another crushing injury blow. Blues supporters have seen in glimpses why the club splashed out £75million ( Sky Sports) to sign the France international from Leicester City, but the amount of injuries the youngster is picking up in his career is definitely alarming.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on his YouTube channel that Chelsea could react to Fofana’s injury by looking to sign a new centre-back in the summer window . We’re not overly convinced that would be the wisest move, though.
It looks like the path is clear for Levi Colwill to get a well deserved chance in the Chelsea line-up at the start of the season. Elsewhere, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile provide further competition at centre-half. Unless Chelsea sells a centre-back, there’s little need to go out and spend on another central defender.
